My big project for over the weekend while I am on the road for a show is to begin to build the master to-do list for preparation for the world record event. There is a lot to do. As is typically the case for me, with any major project, I will begin to churn through the process in my head. Rather than sit right down and get busy with the list I will stew for a week or so. Over the long haul I have discovered that if I do this when I finally get out the legal pad I find that I pretty much have the entire plan in my head and good to go. We will see if this pans out when I grab the pencil. Even more fun than making the list is crossing stuff off of it. There is a bit of an endorphin rush in crossing the stuff off. I love to cross stuff off of lists. Right now one of the biggest items on my list is BREAK A RECORD. I will cross that one off on Sat. Aug. 23.

Stair me down, er, UP
I am hitting the Westin with a vengeance. They built a Westin hotel down the road near my house. 17 stories tall. After a trip to AZ last December I started going to the Westin to climb the stairs. This is great exercise. Great to build stamina. Great to build strong legs. When the world record plans got under way I redoubled my efforts to get in the stairwell. Maybe that is why my legs hurt and not because I am not fit to cut for the 24 hours. Maybe less fitness is in order rather than more. Maybe not. We will see how I am feeling next week. More stairs, more planning.

Just the Fax
I signed all the paperwork today and faxed it all back to Guinness to have my record break officially listed, sanctioned, etc. There is a 4 to 6 week wait now to hear back from them. They will research the record from the past and agree (or not) to sanction the event. Then they will send me a copy of the official rules and the details as to what I will need to submit for verification once the deed is done. There is a little bit to do every day. Like any other grand endeavor... break it down into smaller steps and you can get to the top of the mountain. I am glad you have come along for the journey.

Floor mats
I have hit upon the need to get floor mats for the event. This concern over being on my feet for 24 hours is likely unfounded in the first place... it was not a problem the last time. But, why not stack the deck in my favor? I will find a floor mat company who is willing to donate a set of 3 mats to the event. The claim that "if they will work for 24 hours, they will work for your day" could be good marketing. A floor mat at the chair is just good barbering in the first place. Hey, maybe I should check with Joe first. Rooster's likely has mats already. Duh! Last time I showed up for the day of cutting in a pair of brand new gym shoes. I will go that route again as well. Every little bit of advantage adds up.
