Book review - I Moved Your Cheese
This is not a book as much as it is a blog post that got published as a book. it is an alternative refelction on the classic book "Who Moved My Cheese". i read the original many years ago. it is a classis. We read it as a family recently as we all worked to manage big changes in our family. I started a new job. My oldest was going to college. My youngest was heading to high school. Lots of changes. Lots of work to be done.
I Moved Your Cheese is a great way to taje the concept to the next level. It is about 30 min of reading. It is an insight into making change haoopes as opposed to letting change happen and responding to it. LINK HERE to the book. Have a look.

I did not get a book as a gift... I got more.
I got my new job. The family went to dinner to celebrate. My sister-in-law bought me a gift. She handed me her Kindle. She explained that she was loaning me the device so I could read the "book" download she bought me. So she did not really buy me a book. She bought me a download of a book. She did not by me a Kindle either. I have the Kindle reader on my laptop, but I do not own a Kindle and I can not keep hers.
She provided me the experience of reading a book on a Kindle. Perhaps she is a commissioned sales rep for Kindle. It just might work. I did enjoy "reading" the book that way. it is not the same as reading a book for a number of reasons. Some simple, some very personal.
The book she selected as the new title from Joel Stein about manliness, Man made, A Stupid Quest For Masculinity. She figured I would like the book. She was right. I read him in Time Mag and enjoy his columns. it was a good book. The link to the book on Amazon is below if you wish to check it out... but this is not a book review.
The whole thing got me thinking. What did she buy me, really? She did not buy me a book. She did not buy me a Kindle. I can not keep the Kindle or the download once I am done reading. What she bought me was joy. I enJOYed reading the book. She bought me an experience. I got to experience reading on an eBook device. She bought me knowledge. Anytime anyone reads anything there is something learned.
Joy, experience, knowledge. Wow! Not a bad gift... and as a download, no less. I have nothing to hold in my hand. I have nothing to show for it. It is one of the best gifts I have ever been given. Who says the web is a cold and impersonal place? The web is what you make of it. She made it thoughtful, personal, meaningful and lasting.
